Growing Conditions. Deutzia is an easy shrub to grow, tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions. Slender Deutzia prefers moist, humusy soil with a neutral pH, but is quite tolerant of dry and heavy soils within a wide pH range. It blooms best in full sun but will tolerate light shade. They are hardy in zones 5 to 8.
